Garden Fresh Dinner

This is my favorite time of year for the garden.  Slowly but surely all the crops are becoming ready for harvest.  We have had many zucchini and yellow squash though they are only coming in ones and twos right now.  Our green peppers have also been producing a pepper here and there.  The yellow and red peppers shouldn't be far behind as long as the exploding squash patch doesn't shade them out.  The first rows of carrots are perfect for picking and we have been able to keep up with the constant radish harvest every couple weeks.  The celery have filled out nicely and we are picking the largest stalks as we go, using them in fresh dishes when the mood strikes.  The broccoli has been giving ever increasing harvests every few days.
This small fresh harvest became dinner last night as a stir fry

This small harvest was made into a delicious grill packet.

There is nothing more satifying than walking out to your garden and picking fresh veggies.  I love the fact that I don't have to spend money at the grocery store for most of the food that we eat in the summer and the store couldn't beat this freshness no matter how hard they tried.  I will admit that the garden isn't totally cost free when you add up the seeds, starts, compost, straw and tools that I buy to make it all happen.  It also takes time and effort  to make this happen, but every day that I watch the garden grow makes it all worth while.  I know exactly where most of my food comes from because I grew it myself.  Of course not every harvest looks perfect or beautiful but that is part of the wonder of vegetable gardening - you can eat the mistakes.
